Group Tells Jonathan Not To Politicise Subsidy Removal

The Arewa Youths Forum (AYF) yesterday told President Goodluck Jonathan to stop playing politics with the issue of fuel subsidy removal.

The forum in a media conference with selected journalists in Kaduna stated that “President Goodluck Jonathan is confusing fuel subsidy and politics and not minding the fact that fuel subsidy removal will only succeed if Nigerians? understand the reality necessitating removal of the subsidy.”

National president of the forum, Alhaji Gambo Ibrahim Gujungu, told journalists? that “President Goodluck Jonathan needs to understand that politics and the need to remove fuel subsidy are different things.”

“Politics must be shelved aside and he must practically and realistically prove and convince Nigerians to see the need to remove the subsidy.

According to the forum, “If the proposal is being perceived by Nigerians as his own project, then there is a question mark. But if he is presenting it as a national project involving the Federal Executive Council, National Assembly and other segments of the Nigerian society, then it is fine, but the way and manner he is unilaterally going about it and the way his lieutenants are going about it shows something is wrong, and it will not sail through.”
