Party Supporters Clash With Police Over Billboards

Youths believed to be supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have clashed with police in Dutsinma Local Government Area of Katsina State over the alleged attempt to remove the billboard of a local politician, Alhaji Abdu Umar.

An unconfirmed source said Abdu Umar, who formed a political association known as ‘Naka sai Naka’ at the wake of the 2011 election, and allegedly spent some fortunes for the ruling PDP, fell out with some powers that be within the party.

The clash between the youths and police according to eye witness occurred at Unguwar-Tsamiya in Dutsimma town when some thugs who were accompanied by armed policemen attempted to remove Umar’s billboard.

A scuffle was said to have ensued when Umar’s supporters resisted attempts to remove his bill board.

However, the police used tear gas to disperse the crowd.
Confirming the incidence, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abubakar Muhammad said normalcy had returned to the town, noting that the police was investigating the matter.
