FBI Agents Expected In Nigeria To Counter Terrorism

If information at the disposal of LEADERSHIP is something to go by, then operatives of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) will soon be in Nigeria to help combat the threats that the Islamic Sect, Boko Haram has posed to lives and properties in the country.

Our correspondent reliably gathered from a source at the office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation that the United States government has concluded arrangements to send some anti-bomb operatives to the affected parts of Nigeria.

Although the decision has not been officially announced by the agency, the source further made it known that the decision of the Obama-led administration to send his country’s security operatives to assist Nigeria combat the Boko Haram scourge is hinged on the belief that the Nigerian military personnel deployed to the affected states may not be able to do the job effectively.

“The American government strongly believes that it is imperative that it sends bomb detectives and investigators from the Federal Bureau of Investigation to Nigeria in order to assist the country as a result of the feelings that the security agencies in Nigeria will not be able to provide maximum security for the affected areas,” the source said.

LEADERSHIP also gathered that the American government believes that the Boko Haram Sect is being financed and sponsored by Al-Qeada, a widely recognised terror group formerly headed by the killed Osama Bin-Ladin, and thus feared that if the scourge is not nipped early enough in the bud, it may grow into wider dimensions.

Some FBI agents had in January last year, been dispatched to help the government investigate a deadly bomb blast that rocked an Army Barracks in the country’s capital during that period.
