Varsity Don Seeks Repositioning Of NIPOST

Professor Olufemi Onabajo, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Lead City University, Ibadan, Oyo State, has called for the repositioning of the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) through the instruments of information and communication technology in order to efficiently deliver quality service in the capital market sector.

The don was the keynote speaker at the launching of Journal of Communications and Governance and Public Lecture held in Lagos at the weekend, edited by Senior Assistant Postmaster General and Head of Courier Regulatory Department of NIPOST, Dr. Simon Emeje organised by Troop Pharmaceuticals Limited.

Delivering a paper on ‘Repositioning NIPOST for Optimal Capital Market Delivery: Role of Regulation’, Onabanjo said NIPOST leveraging on modern information technology, unbundling of its operations and improving its efficiency, speed and reliability in delivery of capital market documents could restore its lost glory.

He said the transformation could only be achieved through an independent postal regulatory body that would monitor and ensure postal service sustainability, adding that growing the mail would require using available technology as well as the training, retraining, reassessing and regrouping staff in order to make the postal industry compete favourably with its counterparts in other parts of the world.
