Subsidy: Youths Stage A Protest In Kaduna

Youths in Kaduna, yesterday, staged a peaceful protest in the metropolis to express their disagreement with the Federal Government’s decision to remove the subsidy on fuel.

The protesters were displayed placards with inscription, “Mr President is wicked”, “we need change in Nigeria”, “save our father land”, “build more refineries”, “no to subsidy removal”, “this is bad luck and many more.”

The youths who mobilised under the aegis of occupynigeria and led by Tajudeen Oladoja took the protest to Lugard Hall roundabout and said “we have decided to show our displeasure and lack of support for the new policy of subsidy removal.

“The government’s argument is that if we do not stop funding fuel subsidy the economy will crash and we will go down with it, but are there no other places to reduce spending to save money?, the youths queried.

In a letter addressed to the Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, the protesters said, “we believe the government wants to impoverish us the more by removing fuel subsidy while they continue to waste money on their friends and families.”

The protesters questioned government overspending on political office holders at the expense of the poor masses.

“David Mark earns N600 million annually enough to set up at least 100 schools in Benue State, President Jonathan and his friends will eat N1 billion worth of food in 2012, while fueling their cars will gulp N1.7 billion. This amount will build at least 50 good health care centres in the south-south.
