PDP, CPC Supporters Clash In Makurdi Court Of Appeal

No fewer than two persons were injured in a commotion between the supporters of?Gov. Tanko Almakura of Nasarawa and his predecessor Alhaji Akwe Doma at the Court of Appeal in Makurdi on Friday.

The supporters of CPC and PDP were in the court?to witness the judgment of the election petition between the governor and his predecessor, which ?the court adjourned to a later date. ?

However, the supporters were irked by this development and expressed fears that the time allowed for the appeal would expire on Jan 9.

The supporters, who threw stones and sticks at each other, were dispersed when the police shot into the air and threw tear gas to saved the crisis from degenerating further. ?

One of the counsels to Almakura, Mr Anthony Jatau, had the windshield of his car smashed in the fight.

?Jatau, who thanked God that he was not in the car when the incident occurred, alleged that PDP?supporters were responsible for the crisis. ?

Reacting to the commotion, Mr Hassan Yakubu, the lawyer representing Doma and PDP, alleged that CPC supporters were responsible for the commotion in the court’s premises. ?
