Hawkers, Food Vendors Make Good Sales At Lagos Protest Rallies

Hawkers and food vendors have been making brisk businesses at the Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park, Ojota, Lagos, venue of the protest rallies against the removal of petrol subsidy.

The items being hawked included satchet and bottled water,?soft drinks, rice, eba, beans,?pastries, confectionery, fried fish and meat.

Some of the traders said they?were there to sell their wares and make money to feed their families.

Mrs Iyabo Dele, a food vendor, said she was at the park because the rallies had been very peaceful.

“I?live at Ojota and l have been observing the protest rallies since Monday.

“I cooked almost half a bag of rice, some beans, plantains and meat. I am happy that sales have been good.

“I have made close to N20,000 today,” she said.

Ten-year-old Master Tunde Ojedende, who sells satchet water, said he had already sold six bags, at N10 per sachet.

“I am going to carry another bag of satchet water,” he said.

Mr Uche Okeke, who hawks pastries, told NAN that he had been making good sales since the rallies kicked off?on Monday, adding that he made N10,000 on Thursday.

“I thank God, it has been good;?patronage is?good; I am on my fifth trip to replenish stock,” he said.

Miss Funke Oloye, who hawks water and soft drinks, expressed happiness at the volume of sales.

“The prices are still the same, a bottled water sells for between N50 and?N100, while soft drinks sell for N100 per bottle,'' she said.?
