Curfew: Soldiers Molest Police, SSS, Journalists

The 24 hour curfew imposed by the Niger State government all over the state has taken a dramatic dimension as military men drafted to Minna, the state capital restricted movement of people on essential services, contrary to government directive.

LEADERSHIP gathered that military men blocked the access road leading to the state SSS office and the police headquarters as they arrested SSS personnel and police officers including the Area Commander of Minna, doctors, journalists and other people on essential duties.

It was gathered that the military men claimed that they were acting on the orders of one Brigadier-General Yakubu Det of the Minna Military Cantonment who had before leaving the checking point arrested some policemen with their vehicle, as well as SSS officers who had closed from work around 7.35pm on Thursday claiming that the SSS and the police officers are not in uniform to that they were likely not on duty.

It was learnt? that a white Toyota Hilux driven by one young officer directed the captain in charge of the unit to take all those apprehended at the checking point to the barracks until they received contrary orders from Abuja .

Based on the information, SSS and police officers apprehended began to alert their officers at the higher level after been held for over an hour for rescue on hearing the information thinking whether there was a coup.
