Security Agencies in the country have been? urged to begin appropriate training for Chief Security Officers[ CSOs] in the hotels especially on bomb detection.
This suggestion was made by the former commissioner of police in the Federal Capital Territory, Barr. Lawrence? Alobi.
In an exclusive interview with leadership weekend,?? Alobi? who now runs a security outfit, Hi-Tech Security ,stated that crime, just as security? is dynamic? therefore security managers must always evolve ways of being on top of the situation.
He? implored hotel owners to invest in the security apparatus of their hotels.
Specifically, he urged them to acquire hi-tech bomb detectors and neutralizers even as he tasked them on the quality of metal detectors they procure for their security guards insisting that they should be exposed to bomb detection workshops.
‘’They should not be restricted to looking for metals alone; they should go beyond lethal weapons and go for bomb neutralizers’’.
Leadership weekend gathered that a meeting of Chief Security Officers of hotels in Abuja with officials of the state security service recently exposed the fact that? security guards in the hotels cannot recognize a bomb if they saw one.
A source at the meeting which craved for anonymity disclosed that, when a question was put to the meeting on bomb detection, none of them knew.
The source also said that the 87 member Forum expressed worry about the quality of metal detectors in use as they usually give misleading signals.
The forum also appealed to the SSS and the Police to recommend security gadgets that can make their search more accurate.
Meanwhile, investigation carried out by? leadership weekend in some major hotels in Abuja showed that the fears expressed at the meeting was not unfounded.
A check at some major hotels around Abuja confirmed that the Chief Security Officers, as well as officers of other ranks could recognize bombs even if they come face to face with it.
