PDP Seeks Contributions To FG, Labour Dialogue On Deregulation

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged Nigerians to take advantage of the ongoing dialogue between the Federal Government and labour on the deregulation of the downstream sector of the petroleum industry to make positive contributions to the discussion.

A statement by the party's National Publicity Secretary, Prof. Rufai Alkali, on Tuesday in Abuja urged Nigerians, “especially those who remain skeptical of government’s intentions, to take advantage of the new window and contribute their quota to national development and desist from misinforming one another''.

It commended the government, labour and Nigerians for the successful resolution of the impasse that characterised the? decision to deregulate the downstream sector of the petroleum industry.

The statement said labour`s decision to call off the strike showed the importance of dialogue, which the party had always campaigned for.

“The successful end to the reign of discomfort brought upon our people signals government’s positive disposition to the yearnings of the people.”

It noted that “no society can achieve progress in an atmosphere of blackmail, intimidation, falsehood and undue politicisation of issues”.

The statement appealed to Nigerians to beware of people “whose interests go beyond the agitation for the reduction of the price of petroleum products”.

“Now that government and labour have reached a compromise, it is time to resume our legitimate businesses and jealously safeguard our hard-earned democracy, which some of these elements attempted to undermine in the guise of the recent agitations.”
