We Will Spend Our Share Of Excess Crude Money Meaningfully — Gov. Imoke

Gov. Liyel Imoke of Cross River says the state government will utilise, meaningfully, the state's share from the excess crude account.

Imoke gave the assurance Thursday in Calabar at a press briefing, soon after getting the nod from the South-South PDP leadership to contest the April 14, governorship election in the state.

He said that his administration would also spend judiciously, the funds meant for Cross River from the proceeds of the fuel subsidy removal.

“The subsidy is still on, but with the new pricing policy, we have not eliminated the fuel subsidy completely. There is this perception that there is going to be a lot of money, which is wrong.

“No matter how much accrues to your account, what you get on a monthly basis is what is in the budget benchmark. The state will benefit from the excess crude account.

“We hope that the proceeds from excess crude account will be distributed more regularly. If we can achieve that, we can invest meaningfully in public transportation

“We can invest in agriculture, create employment for our young people and provide them with opportunities.

“We will have dedicated programmes for which these resources will be applied. As an administration we are pro-poor, and pro-most vulnerable in our society.

We will target these resources at those, who are mostly affected – the poor and the most vulnerable,'' the governor said.
