Help Govt Fight Boko Haram, Onaiyekan Tasks Muslim Leaders

The Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, Dr. John Onaiyekan has urged Islamic leaders in the Country to assist the Federal Government in tackling the Boko Haram menace in the Country.

The Catholic leader made the call at a press briefing at his residence yesterday to announce the ordination of the Auxiliary Bishop of Abuja , Monsignor Anselm Umoren fixed for February 2, 2012.

He said that the terror sect continues to call itself Muslim and consider themselves so, and noted? that merely discrediting their activities as un-Islamic would not change their course.??

“We are challenging our Islamic community to de-intoxicate the minds of Boko Haram. They should go further than the mere admonition that Boko Haram’s activities are un-Islamic. Whether you call them Muslims or not, they say they are Moslems and they operate within the family of Islam.

“This de-intoxication of this group must be done through the network of the mosque. It is not from the church that we can do it; we need the priority of the Islam community”, he advised.
