Minister Wants CSOs To Intensify Efforts At Transforming Education Sector

The Minister of Education, Prof. Ruqayyatu Rufa’I, has called on civil society organisations (CSOs) to intensify efforts at transforming the education sector.

Rufa’I gave the charge on Tuesday in Abuja on the occasion of the annual forum for CSOs from the 36 states of the federation and the FCT.

She recalled that the ministry had drawn up a four-year strategic plan in line with the Transformation Agenda of the Federal Government, and said that the actualisation of the plan depended on the participation of the general populace.

“That is why we have created room for partnership in the strategic plan; CSOs are important to the society and the ministry regard them as a force to be reckoned with in the actualisation of the plan,’’ the minister said.

She said the ministry would continue to work with those CSOs that were ready to partner with it and urged them to be more involved in adult and youth literacy.

In her address, Mrs Karamat Lawal, the Director of Policy, Planning, Management and Research in the ministry, called for a stronger relationship between the ministry and the CSOs.

The seven CSOs drawn from six geo-political zones and the FCT received awards for best performance.
