Daniel’s Trial: Court Summons EFCC Officials

Hearing in the charges of economic crimes preferred against the immediate past governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel by the Economic and financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) took a new turn yesterday when the trial judge, Justice Olanrewaju Mabekoje summoned two officials of the anti graft agency to appear before him next Wednesday.

The two officials, Kamilu Gebi, and Seyi Folarin, weresummoned following an oral application brought before the court by counsel to the former governor, Prof. Taiwo Osipitan,? that the duo acted in a manner that would drag the name of the court in the mud.

Prof Osipitan, who was supposed to continue his reply to the EFFC position at the last hearing, on point of law, had hinted the court, at the resumption of hearing yesterday, of a strange development, which he said bordered on the integrity of the court.

“There is a leakage of your lordship’s judgement. EFCC went to the television to say that our application on the court’s lack of jurisdiction to entertain our case had been dismissed because it was frivolous. We are still arguing and they said your lordship had ruled. It is a very serious matter,” he said.

Osipitan said he was bringing the oral application to the notice of the trial judge and that if need be, appropriate sanction should follow, stressing,? “Our integrity is being called to question. It is very worrisome.
