Man Docked For Raping 80-year-old Woman

A 25-year-old farmer, ThankGod James, has appeared before an Akure Senior Magistrate's Court charged with trepass, rape and attempted armed robbery.

Police Prosecutor Insp. Zakari Ibrahim alleged that the accused committed the offence on Jan. 23 at about 2.am at Plot 25, Molete Street, Igbara Oke.

He told the court that the accused, armed with a locally made pistol, unlawfully entered the house of an 80-year-old woman, Florence Olastunbosun, and allegedly had carnal knowledge of her.

Ibrahim said the accused also had an intent to commit felony, adding that three prosecution witnesses would be called to give evidence in the case.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Mrs Charity Adeyanju, ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody, and adjourned the case till May 2.

She also ordered the police to send the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.
