Doctor Warns Nigerians Against Indiscriminate Sex Habit

Dr Abiodun Awolusi, Assistant head of Emergency Unit of the National Hospital, Abuja, has warned Nigerians against having indiscriminate sex with partners who imbibe the habit wearing unsterilised pants.

Awolusi gave the warning in an interview with newsmen in Abuja on Thursday.

He said wearing unsterilised pants could result to Pelvic Inflammatory and Sexually Transmitted Diseases.

?Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID) is infections of the womb that carries eggs from the ovaries to the uterus or the reproductive area of the female.

?Awolusi also warned women to be wary of having sex with men with Urinary Tract Infection (UTI), noting that doing so has serious health hazards for women.

“The reproductive organ of the urethras for example of a woman is very short, in other word, a man has a long penis, through where he urinates through, and a woman’s own is very short.

“Though a woman when she wears pant that is not sterile, that is not washed up and spread it out, then it has been contaminated and a woman wears it, can easily get infection from there .

“In toilet the infection can easily go in, so a woman can get it from the toilet, she can get it from, even wearing contaminated pant, so, hygiene is the key way, is the word to prevent such infection.

“And again, a woman can also get it from the man, if a man has UTI and has intercourse with a woman, she can get infected too and that will develop into PID?”

He listed the symptoms of PID to include; lower abdominal pain, excessive discharge and vaginal odour, among others.

?According to him, when a man has UTI, the symptom is always very obvious but when a woman has PID it may take a long time to know and the symptom is vaginal discharge.

He added that every woman has vaginal discharge and it usually increased more than normal as a symptom to show the woman was carrying PID.

He also listed the symptoms to watch out for in a man that has UTI to include painful urination, painful discharge from the penis.?
