Niger Moves To Halt Multiple Taxation

Niger State government is set to streamline the taxation process and halt multiple taxations in the state in order to ease the difficulties faced by Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs).

The state’s deputy governor, Hon. Ahmed Ibeto, made the disclosure yesterday in Minna while declaring open a sensitization workshop organized by the Niger State Coalition of Business and Professional Associations (NICOBPA) on the ‘Effect of Multiple Taxations on Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Niger State’.

The deputy governor, represented by the Commissioner of Commerce, Investments and Cooperatives, Alhaji Mohammed Wushishi, stated that multiple taxations discouraged the private sector.

He stated that government had taken necessary steps to address the issue of multiple taxations? in order to encourage SMEs activities in the state, to improve the state’s economy.

On his part, the former president, National Chamber of Commerce, Investments, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), Engineer Mohammed Rufai, said that multiple taxation caused set backs for the private sector in the country and therefore called on government to ensure harmonisation of the tax processes.
