Reps Wade Into Osun, Ondo Boundary Dispute

In a bid to avoid a repeat of the bloodshed in Nasarawa and Benue States over boundary disputes, the House of Representatives yesterday directed the National Boundary Commission and the Inter- State Technical Committee to liaise with the governors of Osun and Ondo States to ensure a final settlement of the lingering boundary dispute between the two states.

This is just as they have invited the leadership of the National Boundary Commission (NBC), and the Inter-State Technical Committee to appear before its committees on National Planning and States and Local Government to explain why they failed to implement resolutions of the House with regards to land disputes.?

These directives were issued after considering a motion sponsored by Hon. Ajibola Famurewa on the need to wade into the boundary dispute between the two states in order to forestall any inter-communal clashes.

Ajibola noted that the lingering boundary dispute between the two states started over three decades ago and that attempts by the National Boundary Commission to salvage the dispute in 2005 proved abortive.
