INEC Set For Kogi Bye-Elction

INEC says it is ready to conduct a bye-election in unit 003 of Oturu-Opowurye ward in Ogori-Magongo Local Government area of Kogi State on Wednesday.

The Public Affairs Officer of the commission in the state, Mr Ahmed Biambo, said in Lokoja on Tuesday that the error of missing logos, which led to the shifting of the election from Feb. 18 to Feb. 22, has been corrected.

Biambo said that the logos of the CPC, APGA and NTP, which were not included in the ballot papers, had been inserted, adding that election materials and officials had already been dispatched for the poll.

He reiterated that only 430 registered voters in the unit would participate in the election which, he said, would hold from 8 a.m to 4 p.m to determine who would occupy the state assembly seat among the seven contestants.

The parties which have indicated their interest to contest the election are PDP, ACN, APGA, NTP, ANPP, CPC and the Labour Party.

The assembly seat became vacant following the nullification of the election of Mr Gabriel Daodu of the PDP who was declared the winner of the state assembly election held in April 2011.

His result was nullified by the election petition tribunal, which upheld the petition filed by Mr. Abiding Ayden of the Labor Party.

Ayden alleged that the election was marred by fraudulent practices in Unit 003 of Oturu-Opowurye Ward.?
