5 Persons, 2 Policemen Docked For Kidnapping In Akwa Ibom

7 suspected kidnappers including two serving policemen were yesterday arraigned in Uyo High court kidnapping.

The suspects, CPL. Saturday Okori and CPL. Friday Udoh, were brought before Justice Eno Isangedighi of? Uyo High Court.

The other suspects are Walter Udo, Udo Etim, Etido Nyong, Edem Okon, Udo Akpaetuk and Umoh Ukpong.

According to the charge sheet made available to LEADERSHIP WEEKEND, the accused persons are facing a four-count charge of conspiracy and kidnapping.

The offense, according to the charge sheet, is punishable under section 556 (1) (f) of the criminal code, cap.38, vol.2, laws of Akwa Ibom State 2000 and section 1 (2) of the Akwa Ibom State Internal Security and Enforcement law, 2009.

The accused persons were alleged to have on November 25, last year, kidnapped one Alhaji Mohammed Umaru a.k.a Alhaji Umaru Barkindo at Mbikpong village in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area of the state.

They were also alleged to have kidnapped one Dr. Ini Enang on August 1, last year, at No 7, Medical Avenue, Afaha Ube Itam, in Uyo.

At the resumption of the trial, counsel to the accused persons, Ekere Ebong, argued that he has not been served with the briefs of the matter by the State’s Director of Public Prosecutions, Iniobong George.
