Few hours after South Africa apologised to Nigeria inappropriate deportation of its citizens, the British government yesterday deports 120 Nigerians for offences ranging from lack of valid papers, over stay and other immigration offences.
The deportees arrived the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, during the early hours of yesterday aboard a chartered cargo aircraft which landed and taxied to the cargo terminal of the international airport.
The deportees, mainly young men and women narrated their unsavoury experience, especially how they were being brought back home unprepared in a cargo aircraft.
One of the deportees, a young lady, who declined to give her name said: “I am not interested in discussing why we were brought back home, but my problem now is how to get out of this international airport without drawing unusual attention. I must add that it is not a pleasant experience.”
Another deportee, a young man, who gave his name as Wale said: “How do I cope, now that I have been brought home unprepared.”
He poured invectives on the leadership of the country, stating that if? the economic situation at home were pleasant, Nigerians have no business travelling abroad to humiliate themselves in a bid to survive.
As they waited to board the commercial limousine operators and car hire operators that lined up at the main entrance of the cargo terminal to pick the willing deportees to their respective destination, security officials were on hand to ensure the situation does not degenerate.
