Imo CP Promises To Apprehend Ex-Speaker’s Kidnappers

Imo Commissioner of Police, Mr Mohammad Abubakar, has assured that the state police command would arrest the kidnappers of former Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Chief Goddy Dikeocha.

Abubakar who gave the assurance on Tuesday in Owerri told journalists that the command had intensified efforts towards arresting the kidnappers very soon.?

“We have been doing a lot in this regard, and I can assure that very soon we will arrest those behind the kidnapping,’’ he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the former speaker was kidnapped last Friday in his residence at Ndigbo Uvuru in Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of the state.

His kidnapping came a day before the state PDP delegates conference for which he was a candidate.

In spite of his kidnapping, the former lawmaker was however elected the delegate for Aboh Mbaise in the forthcoming national convention of the party in Abuja.

As at Tuesday, Dikeocha’s family had not established contact with his abductors as his whereabouts remained unknown.

Abubakar however insisted that the rate of crime in the state had reduced drastically.

“The command has arrested many suspects and recovered many stolen vehicles since I assumed duty in the state last year,” he said.?

The police commissioner however lamented that lack of information from the public was hampering the command’s efforts in crime prevention.

He appealed to Imo residents to endeavour to volunteer information to the police for better performance, promising that such information would always be treated with confidentiality.
