Woman Wants Court To Dissolve Marriage Over Husband’s Sickness

A housewife, Zulaihatu Sule , 23, of the Rigasa area of? Kaduna on Tuesday, urged a Kaduna Sharia Court to direct her husband, Muhammad Garba, to divorce her because of his sickness.?

Zulaihatu told the court that she was not aware that her husband had epilepsy before their marriage.?

She said that she could not continue to stay with him because, “it is difficult for me to manage him whenever he has the attack.”

She said that the marriage could not have taken place if she was aware of her husband's medical history.?

She urged the court to compel the husband to divorce her as he was suffering from the illness before their marriage.

Garba, however, told the court that he had no epilepsy as alleged by the wife, “but a problem associated with my brain, which sometimes makes me unconscious.”

He confirmed that he had the problem before their marriage adding: “I am doing my best to get its remedy.”

Garba said that he was attending the Federal Psychiatric Hospital, Kakuri, Kaduna for treatment and routine checkup.?

He urged the court to direct his wife to return the dowry paid to her since she had no interest in staying with him.?

The Presiding Officer, Usman Ibrahim, directed the couple to meet with their guardians, who were at the court, to resolve the problem, and adjourned the case to March 26.
