Benue MDGs Office Constructs 210 Boreholes

The Benue State office of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) has constructed 210 hand pump boreholes, just as it distributed drugs to 276 primary health centres in the 23 local governments of the state.

The office has also inaugurated 80 motorized solar powered water pumps? while about four water dams are undergoing construction. Three gigantic dams had already been properly completed and water is being reticulated to most Benue communities.

Senior Special Assistant to the governor on MDGs and Focal Person, Mr. Timothy Aikor disclosed this to LEADERSHIP at the official commissioning of a motorized borehole at Devine Care Foundation on Abu King Shuluwa Road, Owner-Occupier Estate Makurdi.

According to Aikor, the projects were few out of the numerous ones approved by Governor Gaberiel Suswam to ensure reduction of poverty in the state.

The MDGs focal person further revealed that the administration of Governor Suswam had ensured prompt payment of counterpart funds for scaling down MDGs to? three local government areas in the state.

He insisted that MDGs was committed to eliminating the dreaded HIV/AIDs, maternal mortality, gender inequality and prevention of malaria and other diseases. The goals, he said, were meant to alleviate poverty and to ensure a healthy living for the people of the state.
