PDP Retains Dickson’s Seat In Reps Bye-Election

Dr Stella Dorgu of the PDP has emerged winner of the Sagbama/Ekeremor Federal Constituency bye-election held on Wednesday.

Announcing the result in Sagbama on Thursday, the Returning Officer, Emmanuel Ekulo declared that? Dorgu polled 78,309 votes to beat six other candidates.

Ekulo announced that the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) placed distant second with 1,901 votes followed by Progressive Action Congress (PAC) with 708 votes and African Renaissance Party (ARP) with 587 votes.

Others were African Political System (APS) – 428 votes, National Majority Democratic Party (NMDP) – 386 votes, while Social Democratic Mega Party (SDMP) polled 281 votes.

The candidate of APGA, Mr. Jonathan Hamo, said he was not satisfied with the result and that his party would make its position known soon.

Commenting on her victory, Dorgu thanked the people of the constituency for electing her.

Dorgu is the first female to be elected into the National Assembly from Bayelsa State since 1999.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Dorgu will now replace Seriake Dickson, who was elected Governor of the State in February. (NAN)
