Contractors Delay SIM Registration Data Verification- NCC

Dr Eugene Juwah, the Executive Vice-Chairman, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), on Monday said that contractors were responsible for the delay in the SIM cards data verification exercise.

He told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the commission had assigned the contractors to handle the registration project and the data verification exercise.

Juwah said that the uploading of the registered SIM cards was almost concluded, hence, there would be automatic verification of data by the subscribers.

''The verification is about to start. We have appointed contractors to handle the exercise,” he said.

Juwah had in February said that the verification would start in March and would last for 30 days.

NAN reports that during the verification exercise, SIM card users would verify the data they supplied for the registration.

The SIM card registration started simultaneously across the country on March 28, 2011 and was to last for six months.

On Sept. 28, the NCC issued another extension for those that have yet to register, while the harmonisation process was on.

Intrigues had trailed the registration following the presentation of a budget of N6.1 billion for the exercise.

The budget caused a rumpus at the National Assembly and in the entire telecommunication sector, but was eventually resolved.
