Union Decries Discrimination Against HIV-Positive Health Workers

Medical and Health Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MHWUN) has expressed worries over the growing cases of discrimination against its members affected by HIV virus in the cause of their work.

Chairman of the Kano Chapter of the union, Comrade Kabiru Ado Minjibir, made this known during the flag-off of the union’s health week yesterday.

Kabiru said that the union was highly concerned about the level of discrimination against its members for no fault of theirs, and called for such discrimination has to cease.

“Our members are subjected to unnecessary harassment and discrimination; while people are unable to understand that it was in the cause of their work that some are exposed to various hazards and become victims,” he stressed.

Comrade Ado said that the health week was to look into health-related issues in the state, the condition and predicament of workers as well as raise public awareness towards the realisation of health goals in the country.

He said that members of the union are key to the realization of health goals as they formed bulk of health workers in the preventive health care delivery in the country.
