Constitution Review Committee Receives 50 Memoranda

The ad hoc Committee on the Review of the 1999 Constitution as amended on Thursday said it had received 50 memoranda from across the country.

?Rep. Eziuche Ubani (PDP-Abia), chairman of the sub-committee on Media and Communications, stated this at a news briefing in Abuja.

He said that the committee also received nine referrals for amendment from members of the House.

“We have so many requests from all the sections of the country,’’ he said.

Ubani noted that requests for the creation of states was part of the memoranda received by the committee.

He said that the committee was expecting proposals from the executive and judicial arms of the government.

?He said that they were desirous of keeping the Nigerian public abreast with activities of the committee in order to allow for their contributions.

Ubani said that the committee was working on the modalities of how the review would be conducted.

“We will adopt a work plan in April for the review of the constitution,’’ he said.

Meanwhile, Rep.Farouk Lawan (PDP-Kano), the chairman of the ad hoc committee on probe of fuel subsidy regime, has said that the report of the committee would be ready by next week.

He said that the committee was taking its time to ensure that a thorough work was done on input received from Nigerians.

Farouk commended members of the House for their contributions during the probe.
