NDLEA Probes Death Of 2 Officers In Adamawa

The Chairman of the NDLEA, Mr Ahmadu Giade, has ordered an investigation into the circumstances leading to the death of two of the agency's officers in Adamawa State.

This was contained in a statement in Lagos on Thursday, signed by the NDLEA spokesman, Mr Mitchell Ofoyeju, and? made available to newsmen in Lagos.

The statement said that Giade, who described the officers as gallant and reliable, regretted their death and vowed to bring their killers to book.

“The death of the officers is sad and painful. Until their sudden death, they were gallant and reliable operatives with impeccable track records. The Agency will not treat their issue with kid gloves.

“These are officers that gave their best in protecting the country from the problem of illicit drugs. I have ordered an investigation and appropriate action shall be taken to ensure that those responsible do not go unpunished.”

It noted that the NDLEA officers were on lawful assignment at Loko Village in Adamawa, when the unfortunate incident occurred.

“The operation was led by Allen Asor, following a report of cannabis sales and abuse in Loko village. The operation turned bloody following a mob attack.”

It recalled that Asor was a recipient of the Chairman’s Special Commendation in 2009 for exemplary conduct and commitment that led to the arrest of a suspected drug baron and the seizure of a Toyota Hilux, 2.05kg of cocaine, and N14 million cash.
