Flight Delays: NCAA To Monitor Flight Departures

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) said it was working out a number of measures to overcome incidences of avoidable delays and cancellation of flights in the country as part of its consumer protection programme.

The NCAA Director General, Dr. Harold Demuren who made a presentation to the House Committee on Aviation on issues affecting the aviation industry in Abuja yesterday, said the regulatory authority was expanding the existing framework, regulatory and otherwise.
He said one of the initiatives was deployment of NCAA Consumer Protection Officers to receive consumer complaints and monitor flight departures and arrivals to identify delays and cancellations.

He further disclosed that the authority had been receiving complaints from air travellers and have resolved thousands of cases over the years.

“For instance, in 2008, over 17, 769 cases were handled by NCAA Consumer Protection Officers. In 2009, there were approximately 23,768 cases reported and handled with progressive increases in 2010 (28,956) and 2011 (27,861).
