The acting chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kwali area council, Rev. Fr. Uzo Ohanele has described the period of Easter as that of peace, unity, reconciliation and forgiveness among the people of God.
Speaking during an Eater Rally organised by CAN in Kwali, the acting chairman who was represented by the CAN secretary, Simon Kaura stated that Christians should use the Easter period to reach out to the destitute and orphans through almsgiving and words of encouragement.
“It is a time to take sides with the less privileged, those unjustly treated and persecuted. It is a time to forgive and seek forgiveness from one another. The season of Easter is meaningless if it is not adorned with love, so I urged you to break your bread generously with who is hungry,’’ he said.
Ohanele also called on the Christian faithful not to be discouraged by the security threats in the country but to look up to God who he said was? in control of the situation.
He said: “The church is often pictured as Peter’s boat sailing on the sea of history. Sometimes calm winds fill her sails and she skims over with lofty and serene grace. At other times, however, the wind howls, the sea churns with frothy waves, lightning bolts crisscross the skies and the ship appears to sink but God is always in control.”
Also speaking the special adviser to the chairman of the council on religious matters, Ayuba Mida urged the people to continue to pray for the leaders of the country, noting that with prayer, the present predicament of the country would be a thing of the past.
“As Christians, one of our responsibilities is to pray for those in government. If we neglect that, the repercussion will fall on us. Let us continue to pray for them and for our country,” he said.
The Easter Rally is an annual event where Christians from different denominations in the council unite and pray together as a family.
