Food And Your Relationship

A popular Nigerian saying is that “the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach” but also know that one way to feeling good is eating well. Not only do you need food to survive but food plays a vital role in the state of your relationship.

It is quite complex to explain all the intricate details on how food may affect your relationship but most people are aware that there are even foods that can enhance sexual performance.

When you feel good about yourself first then you can have a better relationship because as another saying goes, “you are what you eat”. (You will agree that there are some people who have annoying habits. Some relationships never got off the ground because the lady was always eating too much or not enough food on outings or that the guy was always eating noisily.

Embarrassing. See? Food is important in a relationship. Good food results to good self-feelings and further results to a better relationship with others especially that special one. So, here are some reasons why food is important in your relationship.

It’s a means of spending time together: as lovers, friends or married couples; going out for dinner with a member of the opposite sex does not only mean being smartly dressed in super high stilettos and cool dresses but it is also when both people get to learn more about each other.? (Try to be your best and keep it in mind that there is someone else in your presence.

This habit of guys piling plates as if they are building a mountain is not pleasant at all; it totally sends a bad signal to the partner. And if she has not said yes to your proposal yet, you might find yourself in her little black book.

This is a two-way thing, for the guy who thinks, ‘I am a man, so I can eat as much as I want’; no way, try to be impressive and eat just enough to keep you going. Same go for the ladies; it is not attractive at all to eat as if it is an eating competition. Trust me, the guy will find the quickest route out.

A friend of mine always complains about his girlfriend’s eating habits, starting with the amount of food she consumes to her table manners. ‘’It is so upsetting; Sharon eats like she has been starving for a decade.

Even when we are out on a date, she eats like she is at gun-point, yet we have all the time in the world. She forgets she is a lady and this sucks,’’ says Biodun.

Ifeoma another friend always complains that she hardly gets second date so she eats as much as she can on the first date, she always demands that the poor guy buys her ‘takeaway’, haba! If na you nko? Will you take such a girl out the second time?

To feel better about yourself:
You not only are what you eat, but you act like what you eat, too. Food affects mood, behaviour and relationships. If you eat foods that create bliss, your relationships will be happier, too.

Foods that support happy moods are fresh, whole and organic. The more fresh and digestible the foods, the more they create ojas, the biochemical equivalent to bliss and happiness. Meals that include lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, fresh milk products such as panir and lassi, healthy oils such as ghee and olive oil, and unprocessed sweeteners are recommended in Maharishi Ayurveda.

Foods that are cooked fresh each day by yourself with love or by someone who loves you are considered the most ojas-producing. Studies have shown that those who eat more of fresh, organic, balanced diets than fast foods over long periods of time are smarter, have good self-esteem and enjoy a better relationship.

Just pick a fruit you like at a time when you are feeling down, you are bound to notice a change in moods. That is the power of good food.

To impress your date:
This one is for those who want to make a good, inexpensive impression on their dates. Sometimes you need to casually impress. Instead of the usual date at a reatuarant, why don’t you put on some apron and get the stove going for a while and show your culinary skills? A catching outfit and candle lights for dinner at home can always do the magic.

Something like the culinary equivalent of carefully procured bedhead. “Oh, this old thing? I just whip this up when I don't care what I'm eating. ” It’s a dream when a guy can actually cook something nice for his lady. Yes, not a lot of Nigerian guys do that these days but we can always hope, right?

What matters is a general sense that what you eat matters and this is because it reflects a piece of your larger attitude towards health and well-being.

In both cases, the people who don't eat cooked food and ate a lot of processed food are more unhealthy in general. They struggle with mood swings, sugar cravings, and get sick more often than others.

The point there being that if things are too out of balance in one area of a person's life, they can impact everything else, including your relationship. So make a better choice in what you eat and see how it affects you in the long run.
