Collaboration is underway between BRACED Commission, South-South region’s development coordinating body, and UN Industrial Development Programme (UNIDO) to develop a reliable and workable industrial master plan for the region.
Mr Chris Onogba, Commissioner for Special Duties (BRACED Commission and NDDC), in Delta, made this known in an interview with newsmen, in Asaba.
He stated that information would be taken from the master plan which Niger Delta Development Commission had earlier provided to develop the new master plan.
“When we settle down on the project, we will reconcile NDDC’s effort with the one we are doing with UNIDO and come up with a robust and workable industrial master plan for the region”, he said.
Although he did not say when the plan would be ready, he said “our focus is to provide the platform the incentives that will ensure that the region attained its desire of developing without oil revenue”.
Onogba also stated that BRACED had begun discussion with the Federal Government for the launch of the regions' rail line project.
He said that the commission was also working on modalities for `greening' the environment in states in the region.
On the second South-South Economic Summit billed for Delta from April 26 to April 28, the commissioner said that providing security at the event and securing the entire region beyond the event was on the priority of the programme.
“You know that President Goodluck Jonathan and his Rwandan counterpart, Paul Kegame and other guests from within and outside the country will be in Asaba, and security is therefore of high priority.
“We are already discussing with the top hierarchy of security agencies and I am sure that nothing will go wrong”, he said.
