South-East NUJ Plans Maiden Media Summit

The?Nigeria Union of?Journalists (NUJ) in the South-East, will hold its maiden media summit on May 3, to address the challenges facing the industry in the zone.

The?National Vice President of the union in the zone, Mr Ambrose Nwachukwu?disclosed this to?newsmen in Enugu on Saturday.

Nwachukwu said?the summit, with the theme?`Challenges of Media Ownership, Development and Good Governance: South East Experience’, will hold at Gregory University, Uturu in Abia.?

He said that the summit would give the people of the zone a better understanding of the benefits of investing in the media.

The vice president lamented that most media organisations in the zone had either?been moribund or phased-out.

?“We decided to organise this because of the challenges of media growth in our zone. Our people are yet to understand that the media is power and investing in it, is power.

?“We want to reawaken the minds of the people to the numerous benefits of investing in the media,’’ Nwachukwu said.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Pius Anyim Pius is expected to be the Chief Guest of Honour,?while Nigeria's Ambassador to Canada, Amb. Ojo Maduekwe will chair the event.

The key note address will be presented by Prof. Kate Omenugha?, the?Head of?Mass Communication Department of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. (NAN)
