Tanker Drivers Want To Partner With FG On Parking Lot

Alhaji? Dayyabu Garga, the National Secretary, Petroleum Tanker Drivers, says the association will support the Federal Government to fight indiscriminate parking of articulated vehicles on major roads across the country.

Garga told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Tafa, Kaduna, that the association had solicited for government assistance in establishing? parking lots for the vehicles in parts of the country.

“We have partnership with the Federal Government for the provision of parks in Mararaba, Minna, Lagos? and other cities but all in vain, but if the government puts more efforts, we shall succeed,’’ he said.

He said that in 2006, the association began discussion on the provision of a parking lot in Kaduna State but the discussion bore no results.

He, however, said that the slow pace of work in constructing the present parking lot had contributed to the indiscriminate parking; posing a threat to lives on highways.

According to Garga, a park at Tafa being managed by the tanker drivers is owned by the National Association of Road Transport Owners, but needs rehabilitation. (NAN)
