Kanu Hails Mikel For Winning Champs League

Former Super Eagles captain and Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Ambassador, Nwankwo Kanu has described Mikel’s involvement in Chelsea’s historic win of the European Champions League as another milestone for Nigerian players. Nwankwo, who watched the match at his Hardley Apartments and Suites on Victoria Island had declared his support for Chelsea before the match kicked off and went on to celebrate with fans at the hotel’s new VIP bar that was opened to high end customers on Champions League final’s day. “I welcome Mikel to the club of Nigerian Champions League winners. It is indeed another milestone for the Nigerian players who have continued to show the world that we are blessed to play this game,” declared an elated Kanu while presenting guest card to Enyimba FC Chairman, Felix Anyansi Agwu for correctly predicting the outcome of the match.

Hardley Apartments and Suites had asked guests at the bar to predict the outcome of the match between Chelsea and Bayern Munich and the lottery was won by Anyansi who predicted 4-3 outcome on the night. The reward was an all-expenses night stay at the hotel.

Kanu said that the success will motivate Mikel to reach his potentials. “When Finidi and I won the Champions League with Ajax, it made me believe that more can be achieved. It motivated me and perhaps, it was the driving force behind the exploits at the Atlanta Olympic Games,” enthused Kanu, popularly called Papillo. Kanu and Finidi George were the only Nigerian players to win the illustrous European Champions League cup until last Saturday when John Mikel Obi played all of 120 minutes with Chelsea to win against Bayern at the Allianz Arena.
