Salami: Jonathan Serving PDP’s Script – ACN

Osun State chapter of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) yesterday said that the refusal of President Goodluck Jonathan to reinstate Justice Ayo Salami as President of the Court of Appeal (PCA) is the clearest proof that the president is serving the interest of his political party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and its few chieftains in the South West.

The party made this declaration? in a statement signed by its Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy, Barrister Kunle Oyatomi, which was made available to LEADERSHIP in Osogbo yesterday.

It noted that the unfolding manipulation of court process to pervert justice will backfire in a tragic way for the country’s judiciary and the administration of justice.

Oyatomi said: “We do not think it augurs well for the country’s democracy and those who are watching us from outside the country will be disappointed that the hope for the rule of law to be entrenched in Nigeria is fast fading, with violence on the increase and poverty becoming endemic, because of corruption. Now injustice is also taking hold which is a very bad omen.”

The ACN said that the arguments being advanced by the PDP and the Jonathan government to block the reinstatement of Justice Salami will be handy in the future to prevent justice, advance electoral fraud and frustrate democracy so that the PDP will perpetuate itself in power and continue to steal the country blind.

The party therefore calls on all lovers of democracy and justice in this country to raise their voices in protest against what the President has done on Salami saga.

He said: “Nigeria deserves only a president whose primary purpose is the defence of our democratic institutions, not one that will conspire with his party to ruin those institutions as the PDP presidency in Aso Rock is doing right now,” ACN said
