Owing to the mounting security challenges in the state, Governor Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa of Kaduna State yesterday marked the nation’s 13 years of uninterrupted democracy in a low key.
The governor who? held only a media breakfast with members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Kaduna, visited projects site to inspect projects under construction.
The governor had, before departing to inspect most of the on-going projects, locked out Commissioners, Local government chairmen and other top government functionaries who arrived to the venue of the media breakfast behind schedule.
The governor who arrived the venue as early as 8.30 am, told Journalists of his total commitment to the transformation of the state.
LEADERSHIP learnt that as soon as the governor entered? the hall, the security personnel attached to the governor locked out the entrance door in strict obedience to protocol.
Most of the commissioners and other top government functionaries were forced to stay outside while the governor’s opening speech lasted.
It took the intervention of the governor’s spokesman, Reuben Buhari before they were allowed in by the stern looking security operatives shortly after the governor’s opening remarks.
Meanwhile, Men and Officers of the Nigerian Police re-enforced security surveillance in and around the state metropolis with a view to forestalling any break down of law and order.
LEADERSHIP checks revealed that both plain clothes and uniform security operatives were seen in strategic places and streets guiding against any terrorists attack.
Meanwhile, the Muslim League for Accountability (MULAC) has yesterday organised a one day symposium on Governor Yakowa’s one year in office at Arewa House, Kaduna.
The symposium with a theme: “ shekara daya da mulkin Yakowa ko kwalliya ta biya kudin sabulu?” was attended by opposition parties’ members? as well as members of the public including the representatives of various NGOs.
? Muhammed Saeed Suleiman, director of programmes of? MULAC in his welcome address said the organisation was a network of marginalised organisations working in the areas of transparency, accountability and good governance.
“It is a fact that we electorates are not taking advantage of our power given to us by the constitution of Nigeria to bring the values of? democracy to bear and guide good governance in the state,” said Suleiman.
He also said that? the assessment programme hopes to? review the administration of Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa? in the last one year.
