Fear Of Mass Sack Grips Uni-Abuja Lecturers, Students

Uneasy calm now pervades?? the University of Abuja, as officials of? the? National Universities Commission(NUC),on the presidential directives, commenced the? verification? of certificates of both students and lecturers with a view to flushing out those with fake qualifications.?

The university has been enmeshed in a web of scandals that has stalled its academic and physical progress, compelling President Goodluck Jonathan to order the probe into the certificates presented by the members of the university community.

There have also been allegations over admission rackets and favoritism in employment of staff.

Students of the institution recently held the education minister, Prof. Ruquyyatu? Rafai? hostage in protest over suspension of? four unaccredited science courses.? In a bid to correct the anomalies, President Goodluck Jonathan,? gave a presidential directive for an all round verification and screening to be carried out on student and lecturers.

An impeccable source hinted LEADERSHIP WEEKEND that NUC officials numbering over twenty (20), stormed the school for the verification. It was gathered that lecturers were suspended throughout the one week verification, majority of students and lectures could not go on? with lectures as they needed to ascertain if after the? screening, they may still be left as students and lecturers in the school? or not ,owing to the defects in their entry requirements as students and not having the? required? minimum Masters degree to lecture.???

One of the NUC officials who spoke on condition of anonymity revealed to LEADERSHIPWEEKEND that some aggrieved ASUU members had petitioned the Presidency and the NUC, and had also sent the list of the perceived lecturers without qualifications to NUC.
