CD Wants Jonathan To Fully Implement Oronsaye Civil Service Reform

A civil society organisation (CSO), Campaign for Democracy (CD), has urged President Goodluck Jonathan to spare nothing in his resolve to implement the Oronsaye Civil Service Reform Report to?make the?service productive and efficient.

Mr Bako Usman, the Deputy National President of CD, gave the advice?after the South-East Regional Convention of the group held in Onitsha, Anambra on Friday.?

The?Presidential Committee, which?looked into the viability of ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) in Nigeria, headed by former Head of Service of the Federation, Mr Steve Oronsaye, has since?submitted its report to Mr President.

Usman said: “it is?only in Nigeria?that you see?departments and agencies with over-lapping functions and a lot of political appointees sapping these departments and agencies.

?“CD would support the implementation of the report since it is only in this country you would see civil servants not concerned about their jobs and making ill-wealth through shady deals while in office.

?“A civil servant building?houses and riding on tubes, especially the flashy cars and throwing big parties and ceremonies.’’

Usman?cautioned that the reform should be done without?witch-hunting of any individual or group under any guise.

He, however, criticised the recent hike?in the price of electricity supply by the Federal Government.

“It is not a people-oriented project since most people do not even have constant power in the first place.

“It is putting suffering on Nigerians even as they are managing the harsh economic realities in the country.’’

?On the crash of Dana Air,?the CD chieftain said that most expatriates in the country were out to exploit the people without the authorities monitoring what they had been doing.

?“Apart from the air crash,?just recently, Indians in the health sector, operated on a woman and damaged her entire womb and this case is still on.

“It is rather unfortunate that the nation had decayed to such an extent that foreigners come here and add?to our sufferings.

“It is time to overhaul and know what each expatriate is doing within the country and how they carry out their daily business activities.’’

The?highlight of the convention was the election of the South-East Regional Executives from?which Mr Uzor Uzor, emerged as the Regional Chairman of the nine-member?body?to serve the group for?the next three years. (NAN)
