Zaria Residents Worried Over Power Blackout

The People of Zaria in Kaduna State have expressed concern over blackout in the last three days when some suicide bombers attacked the state.

A cross section of people, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Zaria on Wednesday expressed regrets about the collapse of power supply to the area.

Malam Abdul-RasaqAbdul-Ganiyyu, a resident of Gayan Low-Cost, Zaria, said: “we have been in darkness for the past three days. We do not know what is happening with electricity line to Zaria.

“Everybody is now indoors for 24 hours but how can one stay at home 24 hours without light. This is extremely difficult for us.

“I thought Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) staff are also part of those offering special services,” he asked.

?Alhaji Aliyu Nadabo, also a resident of Zaria appealed to PHCN to do something urgently to address the power challenges in Zaria and its environs.

?He prayed that the curfew would not last long to enable company workers “come to our aid’’.

Commenting on what led to the Kaduna Sate Government to impose curfew, Nadabo appealed to both religious faithful to sheathe their swords and allow peace to reign.

?“I want people to understand that no society can develop in an atmosphere of rancour, acrimony and chaos.

?“Let us embrace one another and be our brother’s keeper. God has created us together, we must therefore learn to live together,” he advised.

The PHCN Business Manager in charge of Zaria could not be reached for comment.

?On level of compliance to the curfew, NAN reports that people complied with the directive in Zaria and its environs.

All streets were empty as only security personnel were seen on the roads and some strategic locations.
