An Upper Area Court in Abuja on Tuesday ordered that an 11-year-old boy of Tipper Garage Nyanya, Abuja, be given 15 strokes of the cane for stealing.
Police prosecutor Silas Nanpan had told the court that on July 2, one, Mustapha Haruna, of Area B, Block 52 Room 6 Nyanya, Abuja, reported the matter to the police.
Nanpan said that on the same date, the convict broke into Haruna's shop through the window and made away with his radio, DVD and dryer all valued at N38,500.
He said that during police investigation, the items were recovered from the convict and he confessed to the offence.
He said that the offence of shop breaking and theft contravened sections 353 and 288 of the Penal Code.
The convict pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced by Judge Umar Kagarko for the offence.
Kagarko ordered that the convict should be given 15 strokes of the cane.
