Sen. Bala Mohammed, the Minister of FCT, said the FCT administration was collaborating with security agencies and other stakeholders to set up a security trust fund in the territory.
Mohammed announced this in Abuja on Monday when he donated 114 vehicles to all security agencies in the territory.
He said the private sector, diplomatic community and development partners would be encouraged to contribute to the fund to acquire operational equipment to enhance their capacity to combat crime.
The minister also announced the donation of 11 police posts and three stations to the FCT police command.
He said the posts and stations were in Garki, Wuse, Utako, Maitama, Jabi,? Wuye, Durumi and Daki Biyu Districts.
Mohammed described the current security challenge in the country as touching the foundation of the nation and called for sober reflection from every patriotic Nigerian.
“Security and safety anxieties are the realities of city life anywhere in the universe, especially in a growing city like Abuja.
“Perhaps, we need to quickly point out that Abuja, as the capital of the country, attracts all sorts of people in search of greener pastures, thereby putting pressure on the system.’’
Mohammed added that the administration was committed to ensuring the safety of lives and property as the primary responsibility of any government.
The Acting Inspector General of Police, Mr Mohammed Abubakar, who spoke on behalf of the security agencies, thanked the minister for donating the vehicles.
Abubakar assured that they would put the vehicles to the use for which they were meant.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the vehicles are 44 Toyota cars, 60 Hilux vans, six jeeps and two buses.
The military, the Prisons Service, Immigration Service, SSS, FRSC and others, were represented at the occasion.
