Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Council on International Relations, Chief Emeka Anyaoku yesterday blamed the current security challenges facing the country for the setback of its foreign policy, and said was inimical to foreign investments in Nigeria.
“The insecurity in the land is a drag on our foreign policy no doubt, because our standing up abroad depends to a large extent on our domestic conditions. So to the extent that we have insecurity at home it is a draw back to our foreign policy. But I believe that the President and the Government are determined to address the issue of insecurity and my hope is that in due course their efforts will succeed”, Anyaoku said at a breakfast meeting of the council with President Goodluck Jonathan at his residence.
The breakfast was part of the occasion of the presentation of?? two publications on Nigeria’s foreign policy by the Presidential Advisory Council in collaboration with the ministry of Foreign Affairs to the President.
One is a hand book on Nigeria’s foreign policy and the other is a compendium which reviews Nigeria’s Foreign Policy, issues and perspectives.
On his part, President Jonathan said it will assist government functionaries, professionals as well as the country’s ambassadors in preparing them for their responsibilities, adding that it was likely past Presidents, Vice Presidents, foreign ministers and ambassadors may not have been too conversant with Nigeria’s foreign relations.
