Crash: Dana Air Yet To Pay Full Compensation To Victims’ Families

More than one month after the Dana Air flight 0992 crashed, Dana Air is yet to pay the full compensation of $100, 000 to the family members who lost loved ones in the crash.

It was further gathered that only nine of the victims’ families have received the $30,000 interim compensation as stipulated by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA’s) regulation. The regulation? states that at least 30 percent of the compensation must be paid on or before one month after an aircraft accident.

The Dana Air MD 83 aircraft had crashed into a residential area in Iju Ishaga Area of Lagos, killing all 153 passengers on board and more than 20 people on ground. The nine families who have received the interim compensation of $30,000 were paid on July 3, following a deadline issued by the National Assembly that the airline must comply with stipulated regulation.

Dana Air’s Head of Corporate Communications, Mr. Tony Usidamen, who confirmed this, said the lawyers had made some verification and would commence payments to more families yesterday.

He said, “The cheques are ready and the lawyers are putting calls through to some of the families to come forward and pick up their cheques. He added that the verification of the claims was necessary to ensure that the compensations were paid to the right individuals.
