Amaechi Donates N74m To Widows

Rivers State Governor,? Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has donated the sum of N74 million to be distributed among no fewer than 134 widows, including those who lost their husbands in the recent sectarian crisis in Jos, Plateau State.

?Amaechi announced the donation on Sunday while speaking at the 50th birthday? celebration of the General Overseer of Abundant Life Evangel Mission (ALEM), Apostle Eugene Egwatu Ogu in Port Harcourt.

?A breakdown of the figure indicated that a total of N14 million would be distributed among 14 Jos widows while the remaining N60 million would go to about 120 widows, who were present at the anniversary celebration.

?The Governor also appointed some financial experts among the congregation to assist the widows in the management of the funds, saying that allowing them to go home with the cash would not be beneficial to them.

?Amaechi said: “Please, those of you selected should help the widows to manage the money. Giving them the cash will not solve any problem for them. They need to start some kind of business that will sustain their livelihood.”

?Responding, General Overseer of ALEM, Apostle Eugene Ogu disclosed that the 14 widows from Jos were brought to Port Harcourt to attend the anniversary celebration, by the Arm of Hope Outreach, a non-governmental organisation, set up by him to reach out to the poor and oppressed in the society.

?Ogu lauded the Governor for extending a hand of help to the poor, especially the widows and promised that ALEM family would continue to remain supportive of the present administration in the state.
