Amosun Swears In New LG Chairmen

Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun yesterday swore in the newly elected chairmen? of 19 out of the 20 local governments in Ogun State with a call on them to pursue people oriented programmes as the local government remains the only avenue to bring development closer to the people.

Amosun told the new Chairmen that as trustees of the peoples’ mandate, they should bring development closer to the people.” You must all realise that by virtue of the fact that the Local Government is the closest to the people, especially at the grass-roots, you are expected to create the synergy between the Federal, State and your different Local Government Councils to ensure that our people, who have entrusted their fate into your hands, enjoy the dividends of their trust”.

Amosun said:? “the only way to do this is to ensure that the people are involved in the process of making decisions that affect their lives. You must strive to ensure even development of your Local Government Areas. Be fair to all. It is important that our people are assured that development will not only be visible but have positive impacts on their lives and the society.

“No doubt, all these can only be achieved with adequate funding of the Local Government Councils. I want to assure you all that we will continue to ensure that what is due to all the 20 Local Government Areas of our State gets to them as at when due”.

He charged them to devise means within the legal framework to generate funds to finance? projects saying that it was sad to note that while most of the Local Government Areas in Nigeria complain of lack of funds, they also have not exploited the constitutional avenues available to them to raise their own Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
