Imo Govt Has No Plan To Sack Workers – Commissioner

The Commissioner for Information and Strategy in Imo, says the State Government has no plan to sack workers in the state.

Offor was reacting to speculations that the State Government had finalised plans to sack 500 workers of two state-owned tertiary institutions to save cost.

He told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Owerri on Thursday that government had no plan to sack any worker.

According to him, the State Government has no plans to sack 300 workers of Imo State University (IMSU), Owerri and 200 workers of Imo Polytechnic, Umuagwo.

Offor also told NAN that 892 other civil servants in the state had not been pencilled down for sack as being speculated.

He described the unsubstantiated report by a newspaper as false.

NAN recalled that the administration of Rochas Okorocha had embarked on various verification exercises to ascertain the actual number of staff in the civil service.

Similar verification exercises had also been carried out in the tertiary institutions.
