Indications emerged, yesterday, that the suspects including sons of? Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftains? arraigned on Thursday before the Lagos High Court in? Ikeja Division for alleged involvement in? fuel subsidy fraud were yet to meet their bail conditions.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is prosecuting Mahmud Tukur, son of PDP National Chairman Bamanga Tukur, Nasamu Ali, son of the party’s former National Chairman, Alhaji Ahmadu Ali and others, including Christian Taylor, a foreigner over N13 billion? fuel subsidy fraud.
The suspects are part of a group of 20 who allegedly defrauded the federal government? in? subsidy claims.
A source at the EFCC disclosed to LEADERSHIP that the suspects were still being held by the anti-graft agency pending when the bail conditions are met.
It was further gathered that the suspects’ lawyers and family members were working frantically to meet the bail conditions today, so as to enable the suspects regain their temporary freedom.
The court? had in its? ruling on the bail applications? by their lawyer, Wole Olanipekun (SAN) and Olawale Akoni ,SAN, granted them bail in the sum of N20 million each with two sureties in like sum.
The court added that one of the sureties must be a blood relation of the accused with a landed property in Lagos worth not less than N100 million.
It also directed that the sureties must produce three years tax clearance that must be verified by the chief registrar of the court.
The matter has been adjourned till November 13 for trial.
