?The Ondo State Police Command has called on religious leaders? not to relent in preaching sermons capable of sustaining peaceful co-existence among the people of different religions in the state.
The command made the call in Akure on Friday in a statement issued by Mr Aremu Adeniran, its Public Relations officer.
Adeniran said every citizen had the responsibility of ensuring that peace prevailed in every part of the state, adding that there would not be development in the absence of peace.
“The police is committed to its constitutional role of crime prevention and control in addition to ensuring the safety of lives and property of every citizen and will not relent in its efforts,’’ he said.
He urged leaders of the two religions to ensure that their congregation knew the basic truth that both religions preached peace, love and harmony.
The police spokesman also called on the citizens to be security conscious and report any strange character or a group of persons in their areas to the police.
He also stressed the need for the people to provide `useful’ information to the police in order to nip crime in the bud.
Adeniran urged the people to be law-abiding and not to take the laws into their hands. (NAN)
